Our Focus
Our main focus in Haiti is on a very specific need. The Haitian people are very hard working and resourceful. They are often able to manually stockpile sand and aggregate to make their own concrete blocks from the areas natural resources. Then they build their houses and churches block by block, until the walls are fully completed. The problem is that when they get to the roof, they are unable to piece this together over time using concrete blocks. This leaves many structures uncompleted. A concrete roof must be formed with wooden forms, have rebar installed for strength, and then be poured all at once. In most cases you need to hire a company with the expertise, wooden forms material, and manpower to successfully perform a concrete pours of this size. Churches in these environments are so much more than just a place to worship. They are often a refuge from the outside world. A special place to go and forget the harsh reality of extreme poverty. We encountered entire communities without a completed place of worship and fellowship. One community had sticks with a tarp over some chairs. With the pastor left to minister in the rain while the attendees sit semi protected.
A Cup Of Cold Water International works with these local Haitian Pastors and construction companies to finally bring these community structures to completion.
